Me at Martin's Park (Martin's Field)

Martin's Field, Flushing, Queens, NY

The site was originally purchased as a public burial ground by the residents of Flushing, Queens on June 15, 1840 for $400 and was augmented on the northern end, on March 11, 1873. Between 500 and 1000 individuals were buried there in subsequent years, of which the majority were African-American or Native-American. There were also a number of poor whites, as well as wealthier individuals that died during cholera and smallpox epidemics and were therefore not interred in the family plot for fear of contamination. From the evidence thus far uncovered, plots appear to be indiscriminately arranged, often unmarked and as shallow as six inches below the surface.
The last interment was in 1898. On December 2, 1914, the site was given to the Parks Department, but it was not until 1936 that a playground was built on the site. Early in the 1940s, a comfort station, a wading pool and a sand-pit were constructed but they were removed in 1985, along with a handball wall. Additionally, a portion of the playground was removed when 165 th Street was remapped in 1957, and further parcels were added in 1946, 1947, and 1983. The name of the park was changed on May 5, 1931, to Martins Field, in honor of a local tree conservationist Everett P. Martin.

To get a sepia color like the one above just open a fill layer making sure the color you want is on the background color palette to the left and in the foreground (I chose this very dark gray-brown). Then choose COLOR on the layers palette on the right and Voila!

Here's my sepia shot for today...

Josh made balloon animals at the Carnival. This one, two love birds in a heart, he made for me. I colored the balloon by opening the color photo, adding a duplicate layer and then using the erasure tool to bring up the red again.

Well, hi everybody here I am! I'm fine, no problems (thank you for asking and worrying about me!) Here's my post for Sepia Scenes. I'll be around to see yours as soon as I can.

This is a fan on the ceiling of a ribs joint I went to tonight called HARBOR Q. It's called that because it's in Port Washington and located on Shore Rd... Get it?

I had, listen to this... Reuben eggrolls!
Vinny had baby back ribs and so did my SIL, Rose.

Reuben eggrolls are eggroll shells that containe corned beef, sauerkraut, and swiss cheese, Russian dressing on the side. Outstanding!

These two shots were taken directly with my camera. I set it on sepia and this is what I got: a full rich brown color.

Have you tried setting your point-and-shoot or your DSLR on sepia to see what sort of tone you get? Of course you can always adjust the tone using your photo-editing software or free software online like Picasa or Picnik

In my Sepia Scene today I used a Gradient layer and then added another layer, Color Balance, and adjusted the red and yellow to give the sepia tone. Using Adobe Photoshop 7.

The photo is a photo of Cancun! We sure had a great time there!

I wonder if you like this sepia photo that I've selected for today? I didn't desaturate the photo first. I applied a Layer in Adobe Photoshop and then applied the sepia sun faded filter. Because I didn't desaturate the evergreens kept their color somewhat. What do you think?

Some not-yet-bloomed tulips that I posted on my other blog in color. I desaturated the color photo, used Channel Mixer to get the sepia color I wanted, then laid on a gradient layer, and used a black vignette that I reduced quite a bit.

I thought for Sepia Scenes I'd do something Spring-y. This flower is so pretty in its original pink color but I love it in sepia.

I inserted a black aura around the flower from Photobucket and faded it a bit.

Hey, welcome to Sepia Scenes!

This is my niece, Carol, and she took this photo with her phone and sent it to me because she wanted to show me her "tracks" that she put in her hair. Can you see them there on her left? I like them.

I sepia-ized and blurred the pic to take away some of the graininess of the shot!

Hey my friends what are you posting for Sepia Scenes today?

This very tall crane decorates the development my SIL lives in.

Cranes are large, long-legged and long-necked birds of the order Gruiformes, and family Gruidae. There are fifteen species. Unlike the similar-looking but unrelated herons, cranes fly with necks outstretched, not pulled back. Cranes live on all continents except Antarctica and South America.

Most species of cranes are at least threatened, if not critically endangered, within their range. The plight of the Whooping Cranes of North America inspired some of the first US legislation to protect endangered species.

Thousand Origami Cranes (千羽鶴, Senbazuru or Zenbazuru) is a group of one thousand origami paper cranes held together by strings.

An ancient Japanese legend promises that anyone who folds a thousand origami cranes will be granted a wish by a crane, such as long life or recovery from illness or injury. The crane in Japan is one of the mystical or holy creatures (others include the dragon and the tortoise), and is said to live for a thousand years. In Asia, it is commonly said that folding 1000 paper origami cranes makes a person's wish come true. This makes them popular gifts for special friends and family.

The Thousand Origami Cranes has become a symbol of world peace through the story of Sadako Sasaki, a Japanese girl who tried to stave off her death from leukemia as a result of radiation from the atomic bombing of Hiroshima during World War II by making one thousand origami cranes, having folded only 644 before her death, and that her friends completed and buried them all with her.

Her story is told in the book Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes.

Hey gang, I used the flower sepia badge so we'll start thinking about Spring!

I took this shot a couple of years ago, well more than a couple of years because it's not a digital photo. A robin laid her eggs (blue eggs) in her nest balanced on my wooden fence in my back yard.

After sepia-izing the photo I erased one egg to reveal it's natural color.

It is located at the intersection of Broadway and Vernon Boulevard in the neighborhood of Long Island City, Queens, New York City, United States, North America. In addition to exhibition space, the park offers an arts education program and job training.

I applied a sepia tone from my Adobe Photoshop 7, then applied an old sepia tone from Photobucket. I faded the Photobucket sepia to take the pink out of it.
